Make sure you know the vocabulary (SB pp.42-43), be able to give word definitions in English:
- primary school – a school for children between five and 11 years old in England and Wales [= elementary school in the US] – начальная школа
- secondary school – a school for children between the ages of 11 and 16 or 18 – средняя школа
- high school – a school in the US and Canada for children of 14 or 15 to 18 years old
- nursery school – a school for children who are between three and five years old [= kindergarten] – детский сад
- headmaster – a male teacher who is in charge of a school [= head teacher; = principal AmE] - директор
- state school – a British school which receives money from the government and provides free education – государственная школа
- private school – a school that is not supported by government money, where education must be paid for by the children's parents – частная школа
- canteen – a place in a factory, school etc where meals are provided, usually quite cheaply - столовая
- further education – education for adults after leaving school, that is not at a university – средне-специальное образование
- higher education – college or university education as opposed to school – высшее образование
- attend sth (a class) – visit, go regularly - посещать
- single-sex school – a school either for boys or girls only – школа только для мальчиков или только для девочек
- co-educational school – a school at which students of both sexes are educated together – смешанная школа для мальчиков и девочек
- facility – возможность, условия
- compulsory – обязательный
- be blamed for sth – быть обвиненным в чем-то
- threaten – угрожать
- mess up a lesson / test – идет кувырком, нарушить, испортить
- qualification – if you have a qualification, you have passed an examination or course to show you have a particular level of skill or knowledge in a subject - квалификация
- certificate – an official paper stating that you have completed a course of study or passed an examination - аттестат
- diploma – a document showing that someone has successfully completed a course of study or passed an examination - диплом
- degree – a course of study at a university or college, or the qualification that is given to you when you have successfully completed the course – степень, диплом, специальность
- pass – a successful result in an examination - зачет
- grade – a mark that a student is given for their work or for an examination; one of the 12 years that students are at school in the American school system – отметка; класс
- tutor – someone who gives private lessons to one student or a small group, and is paid directly by them - репетитор
- do a 6-month course – study - заниматься на 6-месячных курсах
- curriculum – the subjects that are taught by a school, college etc, or the things that are studied in a particular subject – школьная программа, план
- schedule – timetable; a plan of what someone is going to do and when they are going to do it - расписание
- graduate from – to obtain a degree, especially a first degree, from a college or university – выпускаться из университета, заканчивать вуз
- leave school – if you leave your school, you permanently stop studying at school – уходить, выпускаться из школы
- drop out of – to leave a school or university before your course has finished - вылететь из школы, вуза и т.д.
- apply for – обращаться с заявлением о …, наниматься
- hand in / out sth – сдавать / раздавать
- deadline – a date or time by which you have to do or complete something – предельный срок
- term – one of the three periods of time that the school or university year is divided into – четверть, триместр
- live and learn – век живи - век учись
- learn one’s lesson – получить, извлечь хороший урок
- learn sth by heart – учить наизусть
- read sb like a book – to understand (a person, his motives, character, etc.) thoroughly and clearly – читать как книгу
- let sb down – disappoint – подводить, разочаровывать кого-то
- break down – become very upset – не выдержать, потерять самообладание
- take down sth – to record in writing - записывать
- go down – to move or lead to or as if to a lower place or level; sink, decline, decrease, etc – снижаться, падать и т.д.
- settle down – to apply oneself diligently – взяться за работу
- a full dress rehearsal – генеральная репетиция
- catch up with sb – нагонять, догонять, приближаться к какому-то уровню
- supply sb with sth – снабжать кого-то чем-то
- reason for (absence) – причина отсутствия
- exception – исключение
- dance – dancer
- collect – collector
- comedy – comedian
- piano – pianist
- examine – examiner
- operate – operator
- music – musician
- organise – organiser
- perform - performer
